HOW A METAL DETECTOR WORKS?
Metal detectors use electromagnetic fields to detect metal objects by analyzing the magnetic field they retransmit:
1. Transmit a magnetic field
The detector's transmitter coil sends an alternating current through a coil to create a magnetic field that extends into the ground.
2. Induce eddy currents
When a metal object enters the field, it becomes energized and induces eddy currents, which are electric currents that flow within the metal.
3. Detect the retransmitted field
The detector's receiver coil picks up the retransmitted magnetic field from the metal object and sends the signal to the control box.
4. Analyze the signal
The control box processes the signal to determine the type of metal and alerts the user.
