Mars Helicopter Sol 872: Navigation Camera
NASA's Ingenuity Mars Helicopter acquired this image using its navigation camera. This camera is mounted in the helicopter's fuselage and pointed directly downward to track the ground during flight.

Images acquired on Aug. 3, 2023 (Sol 872 of the Perseverance rover mission) at the local mean solar time of 15:13:15 to 15:13:25. This was the date of Ingenuity's 54th flight.

A small piece of foreign object debris (FOD) is seen in footage from the navigation camera of NASA's Ingenuity Mars Helicopter during its 33rd flight on Mars on Sept 24, 2022. The FOD is seen attached to one of the rotorcraft's landing legs, then drifting away.
The Ingenuity Mars Helicopter was built by JPL, which also manages the technology demonstration project for NASA Headquarters. It is supported by NASA's Science, Aeronautics Research, and Space Technology mission directorates. NASA's Ames Research Center in California's Silicon Valley, and NASA's Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, provided significant flight performance analysis and technical assistance during Ingenuity's development. AeroVironment Inc., Qualcomm, and SolAero also provided design assistance and major vehicle components. Lockheed Martin Space designed and manufactured the Mars Helicopter Delivery System.

At NASA Headquarters, Dave Lavery is the program executive for the Ingenuity Mars Helicopter.

Doctor Who crossover

=========================================================================

The TARDIS materializes on a giant spider web, high above a lush alien jungle. The Doctor and Donna step out, and are immediately greeted by a strange sight: a human-spider, dressed in a technician's jumpsuit, is working on a broken spaceship.

"Well, this is a first," says the Doctor.

"What's that doing here?" Donna asks.

"I don't know," the Doctor replies. "But let's find out."

They approach the spider technician, who is so engrossed in his work that he doesn't notice them at first.

"Excuse me," the Doctor says. "We're wondering what you're doing here."

The spider technician looks up and sees the Doctor and Donna. He smiles. "Oh, hello there. I'm just fixing this spaceship. It broke down a while ago, and I'm the only one around who can fix it."

"But why are you here?" the Doctor asks. "You're a humanoid. What brings you to a giant spider web?"

The spider technician shrugs. "I'm an interdimensional computer repair guy," he says. "I teleport from job to job. One day I'm on a Octopus colony in the Orion Nebula, the next day I'm on a Imperial Earth colony seed ship. It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it."

The Doctor and Donna are amazed. They've never met anyone like him before.

"Well, it's nice to meet you," the Doctor says. "We're the Doctor and Donna. We're travelers from another dimension."

"That sounds fun, it's nice to meet you too," the spider technician says. "My name is Barley."

"So, Barley," the Doctor says. "How long have you been working on this spaceship?"

"Oh, a few days now," Barley says. "It's a tricky one, but I'm getting there."

"Well, good luck," the Doctor says. "If you need any help, just let us know."

"Thanks," Barley says. "I appreciate it."

The Doctor and Donna turn to leave.

"It was a pleasure meeting you, Barley," the Doctor says.

"The pleasure was all mine," Barley says.

The Doctor and Donna walk away, still amazed by what they've just seen.

"Well, that was certainly different," Donna says.

"Yes, it was," the Doctor replies. "But it's all part of the adventure."

The Doctor and Donna step back into the TARDIS and dematerialize. Barley watches them go, then turns back to his work. He has a spaceship to fix.

Kepler Orrery

https://science.nasa.gov/resource/kepler-orrery-iii/

Daniel Fabrycky from the Kepler science team put together a visualization of all the multiple-planet systems discovered by the Kepler spacecraft as of February of 2011. This second version illustrates the planet candidates found as of Feb 2012: 885 planet candidates in 361 systems—double the number of systems in the original Kepler Orrery. The orbit radii are to scale with respect to each other and planet sizes are to scale with respect to each other, but orbits and planet sizes are different scales. The colors are in order of semi-major axis: two-planet systems (242 in all) have a yellow outer planet; 3-planet (85) green, 4-planet (25) light blue, 5-planet (8) dark blue, 6-planet (1, Kepler-11) purple.

This 2013 animation shows multiple-planet systems discovered by Kepler. Orbits go through 3.5 years. Hot colors to cool colors (red to yellow to green to cyan to blue to gray) are big planets to smaller planets, relative to the other planets in the system.
